Production Notes
'Bridge' is a short low-key film written in 2006 with the intention of casting some high calibre over 70s. With our feature film 'Aimless' starting shortly after this script was written it was put to one side.
It's a small, simple but charming short film that is taking a very gentle look at communication in a relationship, no matter the point in life at which these people are at.
About
An elderly couple have slipped into a routine - portrayed in an almost documentary style, capturing small every-day interaction between the two. The neglectful husband goes to a social bridge game leaving his lonely wife Esma home alone. She calls an old flame to keep her company. The two share a quiet evening together until Esma switches the radio to an old classic and her suitor persuades her to share a little dance.
Her husband returns to see them together, devastated he stands and watches blankly as the lover grumpily leaves them to talk. But, of course, they don't talk and nearly pretend it never happened at all. Days later the routine is just about back to normal and it is now that Esma must make a decision - slip back into a now tainted life with additional tension or take the opportunity to make a difference to her final years in this world.
